Madhya Pradesh (MP) state culture minister Usha Thakur has said that work is in progress to convert a 70-bigha plot recovered from illegal possession of Christian missionaries in Mhow Tehsil of Indore into an Anganwadi and Gaushala.

The Gaushala and Anganwadi will then be handed over to and managed by women self-help groups (SHG).

Moreover, Thakur revealed that the state government is setting up primary health centres (PHCs) to prevent people from getting treated by missionaries and thereby curb the menace of forced religious conversions in MP, reports OpIndia.

"Such heinous crimes will not be tolerated in Madhya Pradesh. Missionaries provide funds to anti-social elements who are involved in dividing the country," the minister's statement was quoted by the ANI.

Earlier this year, former MP Governor Anandiben Patel had given her assent to the Madhya Pradesh Freedom of Religion Ordinance, 2020 that penalizes religious conversions carried out via fraudulent methods, including even the ones that were done for marriage.

Referring to that, Usha Thakur asserted that the state government had made a strict law against religious conversion.

She also mentioned that the uniform civil code (UCC) will be introduced soon in the country and termed it the "most vital thing for the country's unity, integrity, and pride."
