The Gujarat government issued a circular yesterday (22 January 2019) directing district-level education officials to ensure a ban on popular online multi-player game PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, commonly known as PUBG, reports New Indian Express.

This directive by the state’s primary education department is based on the recommendation of the Gujarat State Commission for Protection of Child Rights. The circular calls upon District Primary Education Officers to take requisite action to effect the ban in primary schools under this jurisdiction.

The circular reasoned that a ban is necessary as children are prone to getting addicted to the gave which can have an adverse impact on their studies.

A countrywide ban on the game has also been recommended by the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR), according to the Chairperson of the Gujarat State Commission for Protection of Child Rights, Jagruti Pandya.

"The NCPCR had sent a letter to all the states and recommended a ban on the game. All the states are required to implement it. Looking at the negative effects of the game, we had recently sent a letter to the state government recommending a ban on the game," Pandya stated.
