The first trial run of the Gandhinagar-Ahmedabad Metro rail leg will be undertaken in January 2019. The leg on which the trial will be held is 6.5-km long, says a report in Live Mint.
At a function to unveil the mock-up coach for the metro, Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani said the trial run will be held between Vastral and Apparel Park stations. The whole project is expected to be operational from 2020.
For the first three years, the train will have only three coaches and will be endowed with the capacity to ferry up to 1,000 passengers. However, the metro stations have been built to accommodate six-coach trains, MD of the project I P Gautam said.
Phase 1 of the project is expected to cost Rs. 10,773 crore and will be extended to Gandhi Nagar in Phase 2.

The 2024 elections might seem easy to guess, but there are some important questions that shouldn't be missed.
Do freebies still sway voters? Do people prioritise infrastructure when voting? How will Punjab vote?
The answers to these questions provide great insights into where we, as a country, are headed in the years to come.
Swarajya is starting a project with an aim to do 50 solid ground stories and a smart commentary service on WhatsApp, a one-of-a-kind. We'd love your support during this election season.
