Gujarat has emerged as the one with highest installations of solar rooftop power generation systems in the nation, with it alone cornering as much as 24 per cent of the national capacity, reports Hindu Businessline.
While the nation rooftop solar installations as of 31 August stood at 3,088.74 megawatts (MW), the tally for Gujarat stood at 735.18 MW. The positive development was made public by State's Energy Minister Saurabh Patel.
Patel had revealed the development before the State Assembly, sharing that so far 1,03,554 households of the State have installed solar rooftop systems in the State, of which 93,282 households have also gotten their systems operationalised. Meanwhile, the State Government had in total received 1.28 lakh applications.
This comes, as the State Government had launched a dedicated "Surya Gujarat" scheme to give a fillip to the adoption of solar rooftop power generation by the people. The scheme provides 40 per cent subsidy for systems up to a capacity of 3 KWs, and a 20 per cent subsidy for systems with a capacity of 3-10 KWs. The scheme also allows the people to sell the excess electricity generated to the State grid for Rs 2.25 per unit.
