A Gurugram Muslim youth’s allegations about his skull cap being forcibly removed by youths during an altercation has been found untrue based on CCTV footage. His other claim of his Kurta being torn by the attacks too has been exposed as a lie, News18 Hindi has reported.
Earlier, the youth had alleged that the assault took place on Sunday night (26 May) for wearing a skull cap. He also alleged that the youths forced him to chant Jai Sri Ram.
The alleged incident led to a major furore on Social Media with newly elected BJP MP Gautam Gambhir too jumping in the ring for condemning the incident.
As per initial police investigation, while it has been ascertained that Mohamad Barker Alam indeed got into a scuffle with a few youths but neither was his skull cap thrown away (it fell during the fight, following which he picked it up and put it in the pocket), nor was his kurta torn.
The police have claimed that an attempt has been made to spin a regular scuffle into a communal incident.
