Pakistan on Friday banned terrorist Hafiz Saeed-backed group Tehreek-e-Azadi-Jammu and Kashmira (TAJI), which, according to the Times of India, is the re-branded version of Jamaat-ud-Dawa (JuD), a terrorist outfit headed by Saeed that masterminded the 2008 attacks in Mumbai.

According to the website of Pakistan's National Counter Terrorism Authority, the JuD proxy has been addeed to the list of proscribed organisations. However, JuD still remains only 'under watch'.

The move comes soon after US President Donald Trump, in a joint statement released after his meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, took a tough stand on Pakistan and called upon Islamabad to bring to justice the perpetrators of the 2008 Mumbai terror attack and to ensure that its territory is not used for launching terror attacks against other countries. Therefore, this could be Islamabad’s response to the Trump administration strong stand against safe sanctuaries in Pakistan.
