Former Haryana chief minister and veteran Congress leader Bhupinder Singh Hooda today (18 August) came out in support of the Centre’s move to abolish Article 370 and declared himself a chief ministerial candidate for the state, saying that he has taken the decision irrespective of whether he got support from his party or not, reports The Indian Express.

Hooda made the remarks while addressing his ‘Parivartan Rally’ in Rohtak. He also unveiled his own manifesto, making a number of promises, including a 75 per cent jobs quota for locals.

“When a government takes a correct step, whether at the Centre or the state level, I support them. A number of my colleagues were opposing the decision to revoke Article 370. My party has also somewhat lost its way, it’s not the Congress it was before. When patriotism and self-respect are concerned, I will not make compromises,” Hooda stated.
