A senior leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and former Panipat councillor Harish Sharma jumped into the Delhi parallel canal near Binjhol village and succumbed to death under suspicious circumstances, reports Tribune India.
Sharma's family has claimed that he was mentally upset for the past few days after the Panipat police had registered a case against him and his councillor daughter, among 10 people, for allegedly selling crackers and misbehaving with police on Diwali night.
Apparently, Sharma took off all his jewellery and clothes before jumping into the canal. And, after Sharma jumped into the canal, his friend Rajesh Sharma too jumped in to save him. However, he drowned.
Also, Sharma's brother Satish has claimed to have received a call from him before he jumped into the canal, in which he told him that he was in depression and asked him to take him home.
Introducing ElectionsHQ + 50 Ground Reports Project
The 2024 elections might seem easy to guess, but there are some important questions that shouldn't be missed.
Do freebies still sway voters? Do people prioritise infrastructure when voting? How will Punjab vote?
The answers to these questions provide great insights into where we, as a country, are headed in the years to come.
Swarajya is starting a project with an aim to do 50 solid ground stories and a smart commentary service on WhatsApp, a one-of-a-kind. We'd love your support during this election season.
