In a move that will benefit the economically weaker sections (EWS) of the general category, the Haryana government on Wednesday (13 February) decided to implement the 10 per cent quota in the state, reports Indian Express.

According to the report, the Haryana cabinet gave its nod to implement the quota in the direct recruitment of group A, B, C and D posts in all departments, boards, corporations and local bodies of the state government. It also approved reservation for general category’s poorer section in admissions to government-run as well as government-aided educational institutions.

The cabinet approval to the new quota has reportedly taken the reservation in government jobs in the state to 57 per cent.

The income includes money received from all sources - salary, agriculture, business and profession, and will be assessed from the financial year prior to the year of application.

As per the report, those who will not be identified as EWS include people whose families own or possess, five acres or more of agricultural land; 1,000 sq ft or above of residential flat; a residential plot of 200 sq yards and above in noted municipalities and any immovable property worth more than Rs 1 crore.
