Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday (12 February) inaugurated the National Cancer Institute (NIC) in Haryana’s Jhajjar district.

The NIC is touted as a state-of-the-art tertiary cancer care-cum-research institute, constructed at the AIIMS Jhajjar campus and “The 700- bed hospital will have facilities like surgical oncology, radiation oncology, medical oncology, anaesthesia, palliative care and nuclear medicine, besides hostel rooms for doctors and attendants of cancer patients,” as reported by India Today.

Modi was in Kurukshetra to participate in 'Swachh Shakti 2019', an event to recognise the leadership role played by rural women in the Swachh Bharat Mission which aims to achieve a clean and open defecation free country by 2 October.

Furthermore, the event was attended by woman sarpanches and women associated with the 'Swachhta' campaign across the country, and the PM distributed the 'Swachh Shakti 2019' awards at the event.
