Haryana To Get First Civil Airport At Hisar As Independence Day Gift

Haryana’s first civilian airport at Hisar will be inaugurated on Independence Day (15 August). Built at a cost of Rs 12.36 crore, it will be inaugurated by Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, reports Times of India. Khattar said that that the airport was built in record time with support from the Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA) and the Airports Authority of India (AAI).
Hisar was among the airports selected by the Centre under the Regional Connectivity Scheme (RCS), also known as Udan. Pinnacle Air had bid for two routes – Hisar-Chandigarh and Hisar-Delhi. The airport is now its final stages of receiving approvals from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) and is expected to completely open up by 15 October. The Haryana government is looking to invite non-scheduled operators and provide them with incentives.
Along with the inauguration, Khattar will also sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with SpiceJet to set up an integrated aviation hub spread across 4,200 acres of land under the second and third phase of the project. The existing runway will also be expanded from 4,000 ft (1,219.2 m) to 9,000 ft (2,347.2 m).
The state is also looking to prepare a detailed project report (DPR) to set up an international terminal and cargo hub at the airport. Hisar Airport was originally opened in 1965 and is used by the Haryana Institute of Civil Aviation.
Haryana does not have a commercial airport in the state yet.
