In a major boost for the regional connectivity in Karnataka, the Chief Minister BS Yediyurrapa led state government is set to develop at least 15 small airports across the state, reports Indian Express.

According to the report, the officials from the Karnataka State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation (KSIIDC) are in talks with the officials from Airports Authority of India (AAI) to develop the airports and for setting up a special vehicle for this purpose.

“To improve the regional air connectivity in the state, talks are going on between the government and AAI to expedite the process of developing 15 airports in Karnataka which project may start in a couple of months,” said Anand G Joshi, executive director, AAI.

The small airports are set to come up in places like Raichur, Hassan, Karwar, Virajpet Kolar, Yadgir, Ballari, and various other places.

The development comes after the Karnataka state cabinet gave its nod to a proposal for developing a greenfield airport at Shivamogga district at a cost of Rs 38 crore. Shivamogga is the home town of state CM Yediyurappa.
