Union Home Secretary Rajiv Gauba. (OneIndia)
The Central Government has decided to appoint the incumbent Union Home Secretary Rajiv Gauba as the Cabinet Secretary for the next two years, reports Hindu BusinessLine.
The development comes at a time when Gauba has evolved as the key bureaucrat in the present administration handling the day to day affairs of the Jammu and Kashmir region since the scrapping of Article 370 and bifurcation of erstwhile Jammu and Kashmir into two separate Union Territories of Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh.
A 1982-batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer from the Jharkhand Cadre, Gauba will be joining the Cabinet Secretariat as an Officer on Special Duty, and then take over the charge from the incumbent at the position, P K Sinha from 30 August.
Sixty-year-old Gauba holds a vast experience and has served in a host of key ministries. He was a Secretary at the Union Urban Development Ministry in one of his previous tenures and has also served as the Additional Secretary in the Home Ministry, looking after the crucial left wing extremism division, among many other responsibilities.
