Wednesday (6 February 2019) marked the first time that Robert Vadra, husband of Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi and brother-in-law of Congress president Rahul Gandhi is questioned in several probes against him.

Enforcement Directorate (ED) investigators grilled him for over six hours in the ED office in New Delhi and recorded his statement under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) case, reports Hindustan Times.

“Following a review of the answers given by Vadra, we will take a call whether to ask to him to come for another round of questioning,” said a senior ED official. Vadra shall be questioned again today (7 February), and then again on 21 February in connection with another probe.

ED alleges that Vadra is the controlling beneficiary of a London property at 12, Bryanston Square. The property is worth GBP 1.9 million, allegedly sold by an arms dealer Sanjay Bhandari, who is absconding.

ED also wanted to quiz him about a property at Delhi’s Malcha Marg owned by a trust whose convener Jagdish Sharma is an associate of Vadra. Latter was also present outside the ED office when Vadra’s questioning began.

Giving a signal that Congress party is solidly behind Vadra, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra showed full support to her husband as she dropped Vadra at the ED office, saying, “He is my husband, he is my family...I support my family.”

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) took a jibe at Rahul Gandhi asking him to explain how a “road-pati” became a “crorepati”.
