Help On The Way: Tamil Nadu Planning 32 New Patrolling Vehicles To Reduce Fatalities Among Accident-Victims

Keeping in mind the objective to reduce fatality rates in case of road accidents, the Government of Tamil Nadu is planning to introduce 32 highway patrolling vehicles that will be deployed across the state, The New Indian Express has reported.
A police official said, “the highway patrolling team has been briefed about taking the patients to hospitals which are provisioned with trauma care facility. For instance, if a victim suffers head injuries he will be taken to the concerned hospital instead of being shifted from hospitals. This aims to save time especially during the golden hour.”
The vehicles will be customised in such a manner that it qualifies to address medical emergencies at any given point of time. As of November this year, Tamil Nadu has progressed in terms of reducing the fatality rate. Nearly 26 per cent of the cases have come down. The progress is being credited to the efforts of all the stakeholders associated with the Road Safety Cell.
The official also added that the police commissioners were asked to come up with plans to reduce accidents. Based on these plans, action taken by Tamil Nadu police included signboard installation and ensuring barricades at intersections and better illumination at highways.
