The Karnataka state government has sounded a high alert across the state after the National Investigative Agency (NIA) arrested a suspected terrorist in Doddaballapura, officials said on Thursday (27 June), the Hindustan Times reports.

Habibur Rehman Sheikh, a Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) jihadists, wanted in 2014 Burdwan blast case has been identified as the arrested terrorist.

“I had a meeting with the CID officials and as a precautionary measure a high-alert has been sounded across Karnataka,” the Minister told media.

On Wednesday, the NIA had recovered two improvised explosive devices (IED) from a drain in the city.

The Bangalore Police bomb disposal squad had safely defused the IED. NIA officials later disclosed that the accused also confessed his involvement in several robberies committed in Bengaluru to raise the funding for JMB activities.
