A couple of years after Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone for Bilaspur’s All India Institute of Medical Sciences in Himachal Pradesh, the ground breaking ceremony in the presence of Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur, Union Health Minister J P Nadda has taken place. The AIIMS in Bilaspur district will be located at Kothipura. This is being done ahead of the Assembly elections in the state.

The project is expected to cost Rs 1,351 crore and will have 750 beds. Work will be completed within two years and will have 100 MBBS seats and 60 nursing seats. The state has also received approval for a satellite centre of PGI, four medical colleges, an IIT and an IIM. The collective worth of the projects is Rs 9,500 crore.

AIIMS is being built using funds from the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana and is said to boost healthcare facilities in the state of Himachal Pradesh. So that patients can procure affordable medicines and implants, AMRIT outlets and Jan Aushadhi Kendras will be built, Nadda said, according to Times of India.

The project, which will have 15 operation theatres, 20 speciality and super-speciality departments, and an AYUSH department with 30 beds, will be executed by NBCC Ltd.
