Himachal Pradesh Gets A Second Capital, Dharamsala

Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh today (19 January) declared Dharamsala to be the second capital for the state, reported The Tribune. Singh said the hill town was deserving of its new status as it has a history and significance of its own.
Dharamsala residents will now no longer need to head to Shimla, the state’s capital, to find work, said the chief minister, adding that the lower areas of the state, such as Kangra, Chamba and Una districts, held the hill town in special value and importance.
The state government had been mulling over making Dharamsala, situated in the majestic Dhauladhar range, the winter capital of the state. They have finally taken the step. Now, Himachal Pradesh joins Jammu and Kashmir and Maharashtra in having two capitals for a state.
