Himachal Pradesh: Heath Department Cracks Down On ‘Missing’ Doctors, Decides To Withhold PG Degrees

Himachal Pradesh’s state Health Department has cracked down on ‘missing’ doctors from government hospitals who were found to be missing from their state-mandated duty.
Initiating proceedings against 60 such doctors, the department has dismissed 14 while 12 have been charge-sheeted, as reported by Tribune. The Director of Health Services has also been tasked with ascertaining the whereabouts of 40 doctors who have ‘disappeared’.
“It is unfair on the part of the doctors to opt for super-specialty on the state quota and then not meet their commitment to serve in government hospitals,” said R D Dhiman, Additional Chief Secretary of the state’s Health Department.
“We will soon be amending Medical Council Rules to rein in such doctors,” he added.
The department has also decided to withhold the degrees of those completing post-graduation at the two government medical colleges in Shimla and Tanda for two years. The department is also likely to take legal action against those missing despite some of the doctors having agreed to furnish the bond money.
