Himachal Pradesh: The Himalayan State BJP ‘Won’ In The First 10 Minutes Of Counting

If the BJP’s sweep in the state of Himachal Pradesh has to be understood in a local analogy, the win is like Christmas snowfall that encompasses the state each year.
As the early trends showed, the NDA leaders held a steady lead against the candidates from the Congress party. However, six-hours after the counting began, the victory margins have only increased.
Of the four constituencies, Anurag Singh Thakur leads with a 69 per cent vote share in Hamirpur. In Shimla, Suresh Kumar Kashyap has a 66 per cent vote share. In Kangra, Kishan Kapoor has won with an impressive 71 per cent vote share while Mandi has Ram Swaroop Sharma with 68 per cent votes on his side. The vote shares have been consistent since the first minute of the vote count.
The defeat comes as a huge dent for Congress president Rahul Gandhi who had been active in campaigning days and even held rallies in the state, with the most recent being in Solan which falls under the Shimla constituency.
The loss will also hurt the ground cadre of the Congress, one of the most active in India, and it will be interesting to see how they recover.
