Himachal: Tourists Can Now “Hop-On, Hop-Off” The Train Anywhere Anytime On Kalka-Shimla Section

A unique “hop-on, hop-off” service is being introduced by the Indian railways’ Ambala division on the UNESCO world heritage Kalka-Shimla section from 25 October, which will facilitate passengers to board any coach of the any train from any station, The Tribune has reported.

As per the rules of the “hop-on, hop-off” ticket, a passenger will have the facility to board any coach of any train subject to the availability of the seats. A passenger can also board or de-board any train at any station. However, other value added services on the train will not be available to the passenger.

“With the introduction of this service, all places of tourists interest on the Kalka-Shimla section can be visited by a tourist on a single ticket,” said the spokesperson for the Ambala Division.

The service will be started on a trial basis for six months from 25 October.

The tickets for the service are priced on the basis of their validity. One day validity tickets will cost Rs 500 for an adult and Rs 250 for a child. For two day validity, cost will be Rs 800 for an adult and Rs 400 for a child while three days validity tickets will cost Rs 1,000 for an adult and Rs 500 for a child.

The tickets can be purchased at any station of the Kalka-Shima section. A passenger will be required to submit a photocopy of an Identity proof at the time of the booking, original of which will have to be produced by the passenger on demand.

If a passenger fails to produce the copy of the original ID, he will be deemed as a passenger without ticket. The tickets of the service will be non-transferrable and non-refundable.
