KP Sasikala on her way to Sabarimala (Pic: Facebook)
After being granted bail, Hindu Aikya Vedi leader KP Sasikala on Monday (19 November) morning boarded the bus from Nilakkal to Pamba to pray at Sabarimala, The Indian Express reports.
Kerala had come to a halt after the Sabarimala Karma Samiti called for a hartal in protest against her arrest.
However, she has claimed that she is visiting the temple for her grandson’s ‘choroonu’ (feeding ceremony). The police have issued her a notice, demanding that she return within six hours.
Sasikala was earlier arrested en route to the shrine on Saturday (17 November) morning when she was stopped by the police citing time restrictions. The police later arrested her and shifted her to Ranni police station following her refusal. She was let out on bail then.
Meanwhile, around 80 people were arrested late Sunday night after fresh protests by devotees broke out against the Kerala Police's restrictions.
Sabarimala was opened on Friday (16 November) evening for the two-month-long Mandala-Magaravilaku pilgrimage season.
Introducing ElectionsHQ + 50 Ground Reports Project
The 2024 elections might seem easy to guess, but there are some important questions that shouldn't be missed.
Do freebies still sway voters? Do people prioritise infrastructure when voting? How will Punjab vote?
The answers to these questions provide great insights into where we, as a country, are headed in the years to come.
Swarajya is starting a project with an aim to do 50 solid ground stories and a smart commentary service on WhatsApp, a one-of-a-kind. We'd love your support during this election season.
