Hindus are the most educated religious group in America compared to other groups. The other close groups being Unitarians, Universalists, Jews, Anglicans and congregants of the Episcopal Church, reports Hindustan Times.

The Pew study that states that Hindus are ahead of atheists and agnostics and used the college degree of four years as a marker. Pew says the degree is generally known as a critical asset for economic success.

77 per cent of Hindus had degrees, followed by Unitarians, a religious group that supports no creed with its inspiration from a range of scriptures having 67 per cent. Jews and Anglican Church followers came third at 59 per cent, with Episcopal Church rounding off the top five with 56 per cent.

The atheists had 43 per cent and agnostics 42 per cent with Muslims having just 39 per cent. The lowest educated of the lot were Catholics at 26 per cent, which accounted for all adults in the United States.

A 2014 Pew study states that 0.7 per cent of America’s 325 million population could be Hindus, with other estimates placing them at 2 or 3 million. The most significant number of Hindus come from India or African and the Caribbean diasporas.

As the larger Indian American community has made a mark as the wealthiest in the United States and the most educated, so have its largest cohort, the Hindus.

The Pew study correlated the high levels of education of the Hindus and Jews to them being one of the wealthiest communities.
