The District Judge N K Jauhri rejected a bail plea filed by Nishant Agarwal, a senior system engineer of BrahMos Aerospace in Nagpur, who was arrested for allegedly providing vital information and spying for Pakistan’s intelligence agency ISI, as reported by The Business Standard.

The court cited that the case was ongoing and the matter was related national security hence making him ineligible for bail.

A lawyer pleaded on behalf of the defendant on the premises that he was innocent and being falsely implicated due to a conspiracy.

The Public Prosecutor Manoj Tripathi opposed the bail plea while arguing that substantial evidence had been collected from the defendant’s laptop concerning the charges levied against him.

The Uttar Pradesh Anti Terrorist Squad caught Agarwal in Nagpur on October 8. The accused had admitted to chatting with random women on the internet who asked him to share his work details in return of a lucrative job. Misled by them, he ended up downloading a malware that stole sensitive data from his laptop.

He also named some DRDO officials and his former Hyderabad-based seniors with whom he shared the information, all of whom have been questioned by ATS sleuths.
