Intelligence Bureau (IB) employee Ankit Sharma was cremated on Thursday (27 February) in his native village in Muzaffarnagar, reports Hindustan.
A large number of people from the area, including many leaders, officials, were present at Sharma’s final farewell. Patriotic slogans like ‘Vande Mataram’, ‘Bharat Mata Ki Jai’, ‘Shaheed Ankit Amar Rahe’ and ‘Desh Ke Shahido Ki Jai’ were chanted in place of 'Ram Naam Satya Hai', which is traditionally spoken in the funeral procession of Hindus.
Additionally, there are reports that pro-CAA slogans, such as ‘NRC lagoo karo’, ‘CAA lagoo karo’, were raised at the funeral procession.
Earlier, the post mortem report had revealed that Sharma was “brutally and repeatedly stabbed, leading to his death”.
A security assistant in the IB since 2017, Sharma was found dead in the violence-hit Chand Bagh locality where he resided.
Hid dead body was recovered from a drain near the house of the Aam Aadmi Party leader Tahir Hussein.
Sharma, after returning home from office, went out to assess the situation and was confronted by a violent mob. Allegedly, he was dragged inside Hussein’s house where he was beaten and stabbed to death. His body was later dumped in the nearby drain.
His body was fished out on Wednesday.
Hussein is accused of planning and carrying out the riots from his multi-story building in the area. Videos have been doing rounds on social media allegedly showing Hussein with a stick in his hand at the roof-top talking to someone on the mobile-phone.
Bricks, stones and petrol bombs were also recovered from the rooftop.
Several news reports have quoted residents in the area, including the family members of Sharma, alleging Hussein's role.
Hussein has denied all accusations.
According to the doctors who conducted the post-mortem, "multiple abrasion.. deep cut.. by sharp edge objects" were found on Sharma’s body.
The doctors reportedly said that they hadn’t seen a dead body with so many wounds. The stabbing was so gruesome that Sharma’s intestines had come out.
