Hunter Biden, Son Of US President-Elect Joe Biden, Under Investigation By Federal Agencies Over Potential Money Laundering, Tax Fraud, Chinese Ties: Reports

Hunter Biden, son of president-elect Joe Biden (incumbent President Donald Trump has not conceded defeat), disclosed on Wednesday (Dec 9) that federal investigators are conducting a probe into his taxes.

“I learned yesterday for the first time that the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Delaware advised my legal counsel, also yesterday, that they are investigating my tax affairs,” Hunter Biden said in a statement to the media. “I take this matter very seriously but I am confident that a professional and objective review of these matters will demonstrate that I handled my affairs legally and appropriately, including with the benefit of professional tax advisors.” he added.

According to Politico, the scope of federal investigation into Hunter Biden is far more extensive than a terse statement from Hunter indicated. Citing source aware of investigation, the report revealed that securities fraud unit in the Southern District of New York is currently investigating Hunter Biden’s finances. He is also reportedly under investigation over potential money laundering and foreign ties.

CNN reported that focus of investigation by Federal agencies is on business dealings of Hunter Biden in China. CNN reported that investigation in part concerns a 2.8 carat diamond that Hunter Biden received in 2017 from Ye Jianming, former chairman of CEFC China Energy and a former business partner of Hunter.

The Biden-Harris transition team released a statement in support of the incoming president’s son.

“President-elect Biden is deeply proud of his son, who has fought through difficult challenges, including the vicious personal attacks of recent months, only to emerge stronger,” the transition team said.
