Hyderabad High Court Is The New Traffic Cop? Citizen Files PIL On Parking Woes In Metro Stations

A citizen wrote to Hyderabad High Court over the parking woes in the city’s metro stations, Times of India has reported. The letter written by an individual by name L Adinarayana of Tarnaka was taken up as a public interest litigation (PIL).
He has alleged that space meant for parking has been allowed for encroachment by hotels, theatres and commercial complexes. “Outside these commercial facilities, there are huge parking problems,” Adinarayana said. The zig-zag parking pattern adopted at the metro stations is also messed up according to him.
Chief Justice will hear the matter and question the officials of municipal administration and Director General of Police (DGP) of the state regarding the approvals given by these authorities for the construction of the metro stations.
The newly inaugurated 16-kilometre Ameerpet-LB Nagar metro received a massive public response on the first day of its operation with 19,000 passengers making use of the metro line. On day two, the number of riders touched 69,000. The number of commuters using Corridor-1 has bounced from 45,000 to 1,14,000. During peak hours on Sunday, the corridor- I handled close to 1.8 lakh commuters. Therefore it is evident that the parking requirement is the need of the hour in Hyderabad’s metro stations.
