Hyderabad’s Multi-Mode Transport System (MMTS) will have eight rakes added to its existing ten rakes that are operational on different routes.
South Central Railway (SCR) which oversees that operations of Hyderabad’s MMTS, on 1 May inducted the 12-coach rakes to accommodate more passengers. Currently, MMTS ferries around 1.4 to 1.8 lakh passengers daily on its 121 services.
The phase 3 project will double the seating capacity from 700 to 1,150 people and from 2,000 to 4,000 travellers who commute standing respectively, reports Rail Analysis India.
The new coaches will sport different colour patterns and vinyl wrapped interiors for comfortable seating. Cameras will be installed in ladies coaches for additional surveillance. The new rakes will have LED display boards that inform the passengers on train movement, approaching station and destination details.
Speaking to media, a senior official said: “we will introduce them in May, and another four trains will be operated in a phased manner, and the four trains have already arrived from the Integral Coach Factory in Chennai.”
SCR extended the platforms of Vidyanagar, Seethaphalmandi, Yakutpura, Dabeerpura and Malakpet stations at the cost of nearly Rs 4 crore to accommodate the 12-coach rakes.
