On Sunday (2 December), President of Nigeria Muhammadu Buhari denied claims that he had died and was replaced by a Sudanese lookalike, breaking his silence about rumours in social media, reported Reuters.

Buhari spent five months in Britain and was treated for an undisclosed disease. A rumour went viral in social media that a Sudanese called Jubril replaced Buhari. No evidence was given in the videos about the claim.

“It’s the real me, I assure you. I will soon celebrate my 76th birthday, and I will still go strong,” said the president in a town hall session in Poland.

The President is running for re-election in February. “A lot of people hoped that I died during my ill health,” he added, and called the ones who spread the rumour “as ignorant and irreligious”.

The government circulated Buhari’s comments in an email titled “It’s Real Me, President Buhari Responds to Cloning Allegation”.
