IAF Carries Out Twin Firings Of BrahMos Supersonic Cruise Missiles In Andaman And Nicobar Islands

Two Brahmos Surface to Surface missiles were fired by Indian Air Force at Trak Island in the Andaman Nicobar group of islands, a Defence Ministry spokesperson said on Tuesday (22 October).
The twin firings on 21 and 22 October were carried out as a part of the routine operational training, the spokesperson said.
The missile engaged the designated mock targets close to 300km away. A direct hit on the target was achieved in both the cases.
Firing of the missile has enhanced the IAFs capability to engage the ground targets with pin point accuracy from a mobile platform, she said.
The BrahMos is a medium-range ramjet supersonic cruise missile that can be launched from submarine, ships, aircraft, or land. It is the fastest supersonic cruise missile in the world.
The missile, with a strike range of 290km, can be fired from land as well as sea-based platforms.
The BrahMos missile has been developed by the DRDO in association with NPOM, a Russia-based rocket design bureau.
