IAF Seeks Land To Construct Air Defence Radar And Expand Airports In Uttarakhand Amid China Conflict

The Indian Air Force (IAF) is looking to construct Air Defence Radars in three border districts of Pithoragarh, Uttarkashi and Chamoli in Uttarakhand, Indian Express reports.
The IAF requires area for advance landing ground, downloading, refuelling and uploading ammunition. It seems as if the force is looking to strengthen its bases in key, critical provinces of the state, especially as it shares a border with China.
Air Marshal Rajesh Kumar met Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat in Dehradun to ponder upon the proposals and requirement of land. The IAF is also seeking to formulate a new airport in Chaukhutia.
Speaking to Indian Express, a senior official remarked, “IAF has given a proposal to set up Air Force Radars in three districts and are looking for a suitable site for that. They want land for advance landing ground which can be used for refuelling as well as uploading and downloading of ammunition. The state government is working in coordination with them to do the needful.”
Furthermore, the air force is looking to expand the airports at Pithoragarh, Jolly Grant and Pantnagar. Both the IAF and the state government will be deploying their respective nodal officers to identify land appropriate for these projects. Rawat’s dispensation has so far ascertained Bhaisoli village situated in Almora district for the Air Defence Radar.
