ICC Responds To BCCI Letter, Says Boycotting Cricketing Nations Not In Its Domain

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has turned down the Board of Cricket Control of India’s (BCCI) plead to sever ties with countries from which “terrorism emanates”. The international cricket board said that it has no role to play such matters, reports Indian Express.
The BCCI, in its letter to the ICC, had urged the international cricket body to sever ties with countries which harbour terror post Pulwama terror attack, in which more than 40 CRPF personnel were killed. However, BCCI did not make a specific reference to Pakistan in the letter, which has been accused of harbouring terrorists by India.
"The ICC chairman made it clear that the decision to ostracise a nation is taken at the government level and ICC had no rule,” a BCCI official was quoted saying to the PTI.
The issue was reportedly taken up during the ICC board meeting on Saturday (2 March) chaired by Shashank Manohar.
The Indian board was reportedly represented at the meeting by its acting secretary Amitabh Choudhary.
India is scheduled to play Pakistan in the World Cup on 16 June. In the wake of the diplomatic tensions between the two countries following the Pulwama attack, there have been calls for an international boycott of Pakistan.
