A recent survey conducted by India Today and Karvy has revealed that the country will vote overwhelmingly in favour of Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led National Democratic Alliance if General Elections are held today. According to the survey, the NDA can win up to 360 seats, restricting the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance to just 60 seats. NDA currently has 336 seats and the UPA has 58.

The survey was conducted between 30 December 2016 and 9 January 2017. This is the first mainstream survey conducted after the announcement of the withdrawal of high-value currency notes on 8 November and can be also be seen as an approval for government’s demonetisation move.

65 per cent of the respondents said that they would like to see Narendar Modi as their prime minister. The anti-demonetisation campaign led by Trinamool Congress leader and Chief Minister of West Bengal Mamata Banerjee, it seems, has not had any effect on Modi’s image. Just 28 per cent respondents want to see Rahul Gandhi as their prime minister.
