International Business Machines (IBM) and Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi came together on Thursday ( November 29) to take part in a multi-year research collaboration related to Artificial Intelligence (AI) in India, India Today has reported.

Students and professors from the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at IIT Delhi will collaborate with researchers from IBM to inculcate AI systems and some key traits like comprehension, inferencing and reasoning.

The collaboration will have a positive effect on sectors such as finance, customer support and healthcare and medicine that deal with a complex set of questions requiring reasoning, IBM said in a statement.

"India has immense talent to accelerate innovation in AI and related technologies. We are happy to collaborate with IBM Research scientists and provide opportunities to our students and faculty colleagues to work on some of the complex problems around AI and apply the solutions to real-world scenarios," said IIT Delhi Director, Professor V. Ramgopal Rao.

The partnership enables the varsity to join an elite international consortium of leading universities who work with the tech giant to develop technologies under IBM’s “AI Horizons Network” initiative. The AI will be trained to understand complex questions using natural language techniques and obtain new insights using its knowledge of the domain.
