IIT Delhi Students Develop App To Provide 24x7 Towing, Puncture, Emergency Assistance On Indian Road

Students and alumni from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi have developed and smartphone application to make roads in the country safer and allow fast first response to emergency situations, the Financial Express reports.
The iSAFE assist app was launched by officials from the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways along with various associations. The app has received backing by 6,200 authorised service providers in the 28 states covering 1,795 cities for emergency services like towing, fuel delivery and flat tyre assistance.
The iSAFE Assist project is a brainchild of IIT Delhi alumni Amar Srivastava. After an accident to a fellow student, Amar began the project as an awareness drive and then developed it to a platform which now has a pan-India helpline (1800 419 7779).
The Indian Road Safety Campaign (IRSC)- an NGO led by the students and the alumni IIT Delhi, in collaboration with the Ministry of Transport manages the app. They have been conducting awareness programs in more than 1,500 colleges across the country.
