After India refuted the claim made by the United States President Donald Trump that Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi asked him to mediate between India and Pakistan over Kashmir issue, Pakistan's PM Imran Khan on Tuesday (23 July) said that he was surprised by New Delhi's reaction on the matter, reports Financial Express.

"Surprised by the reaction of India to President Trump’s offer of mediation to bring Pak and India to dialogue table for resolving Kashmir conflict which has held subcontinent hostage for 70 years. Generations of Kashmiris have suffered and are suffering daily and need conflict resolution," Khan said in a tweet from his official handle.

While briefing the press in the course of his ongoing trip to United States (US), Khan asserted that the US being a powerful nation can play a role in resolving the old issue between India and Pakistan.

Meanwhile, the Minister of External Affairs S Jaishankar cleared India's stance on the matter that PM Modi had made no such overtures to President Trump, and that India's position on the matter is consistent.
