In 2019: Central Government Will Go Full Throttle On Labour Reforms; To Balance Out Both Worker And Industrial Welfare

The Centre is set to put out some key labour reforms in the new year and is expected to get Parliament nod on at least two codes relating to wages as well as industrial relations, reports Deccan Herald.

The labour ministry has reportedly sought Union Cabinet's approval to amend wage code bill after its scrutiny by the parliamentary standing committee.

The Code on Wages Bill 2017 was introduced in the Lok Sabha on 10 August 2017 and was subsequently referred to a standing committee of the Parliament.

The Ministry of Labour and Employment is also keen to pass Code on Industrial Relations after amending certain provisions in the bill as it drew flak from the trade unions.

The ministry has earlier taken steps to formulate four labour codes on wages, industrial relations, social security and welfare and occupational safety, health and working conditions by simplifying and rationalising the existing central labour laws.

"Keeping the social security and welfare aspects of workmen better and intact, we are working in the direction of bringing reforms in various labour laws with the objective of ease of doing business in the future," Labour Minister Santosh Gangwar was quoted as saying by DH.

He has also said that the government has taken several new initiatives in the labour and employment sector this year.
