In A First, Facebook Will Integrate WhatsApp, Instagram And Messenger; To Promote Inter-Platform Communication

Social Media giant Facebook on Friday (25 January) said that it was attempting to integrate its messaging apps, reports Deccan Herald. With the move, users can exchange encrypted messages regardless of which services they use.
Currently, Facebook owns three standalone social media applications - Instagram, Facebook Messenger and WhatsApp. While each service is widespread, the users need to be in the same app to exchange messages and connect with others.
"We're working on making more of our messaging products end-to-end encrypted and considering ways to make it easier to reach friends and family across networks," a spokeswoman for Facebook replied to an AFP inquiry about a New York Times report about the attempt.
"As you would expect, there is a lot of discussion and debate as we begin the long process of figuring out all the details of how this will work”, she adds.
According to the New York Times report, Facebook is hoping to join the three apps to communicate with each another, while remaining as separate services at the same time. The report mentioned that the social media platform plans to do so by either end of this year or early next year.
All of the three Facebook-owned communication platforms have over a billion users each.
