In a boost for infrastructure in Telangana, the Central government on Friday (21 December) endorsed the eagerly awaited Regional Ring Road (RRR). Giving its stamp of approval to the project, specialists of the Central government’s National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) asked the state government to present a Detailed Project Report (DPR) and, furthermore, urged speedy land acquisition for the project, reports The Hans India.

The project, which costs an expected Rs 5,500 crore, will be extended to 362 km around Hyderabad city to facilitate connectivity between regions around the city. The road is likely to be four-laned, from Sangareddy to Kandi through Narsapur, Toopran, Gajwel, Jagdevpur, Bhongir, Choutuppal, Ibrahimpatnam, Chevella and Shankarpalli.

Chief Minister K Chandrasekhara Rao asked Telangana officials to fulfill the state’s part of the deal by ensuring land for the project. The Central government will bear the rest of the sum (50 per cent) towards laying of the expressway around Hyderabad city, on the lines of the Hyderabad Outer Ring Road (ORR).
