In a brief video posted on YouTube on Monday (21 November) addressing the American people, US president-elect Donald Trump announced a series of executive actions he plans to take in the first 100 days of his presidency, including withdrawing from the Trans-Pacific Partnership on day one.

Trump also cleared the air on performance of his transition team, saying that team is working very smoothly, efficiently and effectively. “Truly great and talented men and women, patriots indeed, are being brought in and many will soon be a part of our government,” he said.

Notably missing from his policy points were the building of a wall along the US-Mexico border and repealing Obamacare.

On Trump’s list:

• Issuing notification of intent to withdraw from the Trans-Pacific Partnership trade agreement. “I am going to issue our notification of intent to withdraw from the Trans-Pacific Partnership,” Trump said, calling the trade deal “a potential disaster for our country.”

• Canceling restrictions on American energy including shale and clean coal. He added that this would create millions of high-paying jobs.

• Removing red tape and creating a new rule that states “for every one new regulation, two old regulations must be eliminated.”

• Instructing the Department of Defense and other national security agencies to develop a comprehensive plan to protect American infrastructure from cyber attacks and all ‘other attacks’.

• Asking the US Department of Labor to investigate visa program abuses “that undercut the American worker.”

• Instituting new limitations on lobbyists, including a five-year ban on lobbying after officials leave their posts in government and a lifetime ban on lobbying on behalf of a foreign government.
