A woman in Uttar Pradesh’s Sitapur has accused her in-laws of chopping off her nose for refusing to withdraw a case against her husband for giving Triple Talaq, ANI has reported.
As per the police, after the husband gave Triple Talaq to the woman, the two families tried to reconcile the couple via marriage counselling and when the efforts failed the police filed a complaint against the husband.
This reportedly angered the woman’s in-laws who are accused of first assaulting her and then chopping off her nose using a sharp weapon.
The woman’s mother identified as Sharifun Nisha alleged that, “I went to the police station to file a triple talaq complaint for my daughter. Her in-laws threatened her after she did not withdraw the case. They beat her up.”
The victim’s brother-in-law was then quoted as alleging that her nose was chopped off and he was pelted with stones. The woman is currently undergoing treatment and cops have confirmed that she has suffered a nose injury.
Triple Talaq is now a punishable offence which carried a jail term of up to three years.
