In welcome news for many Indian Railways employees, Union minister Prakash Javadekar announced that the central government has approved the grant of the productivity linked bonus to approximately 11.52 lakh non-gazetted personnel, reports Times Now News.

Productivity linked bonus for an employee is the equivalent to 78 days’ wages worth, so is a substantial lump sum amount. In a Twitter post, Railways Minister Piyush Goyal said that it would be a morale booster for the employees and incentivise them to be more productive.

This is the sixth consecutive year in which railways employees are receiving the productivity linked bonus. According to Javadekar, the Centre will spend Rs 2,024 crore in order to pay for this bonus.

The bonus covers all non-gazetted staff of the Indian Railways but will exclude personnel belonging to the Railway Protection Force (RPF) and Railway Protection Special Force
