India A Step Closer To Bringing Back Vijay Mallya As UK High Court Rejects His Petition Against Extradition

The UK High Court on Monday (8 April) rejected Vijay Mallya's petition against the decision of UK Home Secretary Sajid Javid to extradite him to India, Indian Express has reported.
This comes as a big setback for Mallya who is facing charges of fraud, money laundering and violation of Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA) and is wanted for wilful default of over Rs 9,000 crore of loans from Indian banks.
While his written submission in the court has been rejected by the High Court, he will get a time of 30-minutes time to make an oral submission. Now, Mallya has the option to knock the doors of the UK Supreme Court, which may involve at least another six weeks.
The owner of now defunct Kingfisher Airlines, Mallya has recently been in the news for bashing the Government of India as against his default of Rs 9,000 crore the authorities have attached his assets worth more than Rs 14,000 crore, globally.
Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and Enforcement Directorate (ED) with support from the Ministry of External Affairs have been engaged in the rigorous processes to expedite the extradition of Indian fugitives, Mallya and infamous diamantaire, Nirav Modi who was found and incarcerated in the UK last month (March 2019).
