The new chips to startups program of the central government will create a talent pool of 85000 high-skilled engineers, which will help India in becoming a semiconductor hub, reports Economic Times.

While announcing the cabinet approval for a Rs 76,000 crore incentive schme for boosting semiconductor and display fabrication production in the country on Wednesday, Union Electronics and IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said that nearly 20 per cent of the engineers in the global semiconductor industry hail from India.

He further said that the government has decided to start a C2S (Chips To Startup) programme to create a talent pool of 85,000 "high-quality, highly qualified, well trained" engineers.

He further said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had approved a vision for next 20 years, under which a complete semiconductor ecosystem, high-quality jobs and creation of well trained talent pool will be created in the country.

The union cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on Wednesday (15 December) gave its approval to a Rs 76000 crore production-linked incentive (PLI) scheme for semiconductors.

The move will create massive employment opportunities along with export momentum for the economy.
