India Army Conducts Joint Surgical Strike With Myanmar Troops To Destroy Northeast Insurgency Camps

The Indian Army in a joint operation along with its Myanmar counterparts has destroyed camps belonging to Northeast insurgents and at the same time apprehended militants fleeing from the region, Indian Express has reported.

The coordinated action code-named Operation Sunshine-2 involved both the armies destroying various insurgent camps on their respective sides of the border. The joint exercise took place between 16 May and 8 June and involved two battalions of the Indian Army along with its Special Forces, Assam Rifles and the Infantry Ghataks.

In total 70 to 80 militants have been apprehended by the Indian Army under the current operation, who have then been handed over to the local police forces. As per the report, least seven to eight camps of the NSCN-K, NDFB, ULFA(I), KLO and NEFT in Myanmar’s Sagaing Region were destroyed by the Myanmar Army in mortar firing.

This exercise was a followup to ‘Operation Sunshine-1’, that took place between 22 to 26 February, when the Indian Army acted against Arakanese insurgent camps inside the Indian territory, and fleeing Arakanese rebels were arrested by the Myanmar Army on their side.
