Made in India bulletproof jackets which align with international norms are now being exported to more than 100 countries, the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) has said, reports PTI. This has been achieved in accordance a very own Indian national standard on bulletproof jackets, making India a part of a select group of nations including the US, UK and Germany.
"I understand that bulletproof jackets are not only produced and procured in India as per the BIS standards but also being sold in 100 other countries," BIS Deputy Director Rajesh Bajaj said.
The Indian bulletproof jackets are being manufactured in Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh and Haryana but a mix of public sector and private firms. These companies have already supplied Indian security forces with 1.86 lakh bulletproof jackets.
