India has successfully managed to electrify 99.78 per cent households until 15 January as per government data.
Out of the 4.70 lakh households still to get an electricity connection, 20,320 are in Chhattisgarh, 94,555 in Meghalaya, 1.13 lakh in Rajasthan with 2.42 lakh belong to Assam.
As far as the pace of electrification goes, 23.48 lakh households were electrified in December 2018 and 6.21 lakh households got electricity in January alone. Out of the 6.41 lakh households, 1.20 lakh received an electric connection on 2 January alone.
Based on the current pace of work, it can be inferred that India may achieve complete household electrification sometime by the end of the month, provided the apparatus is available on the ground.
Introducing ElectionsHQ + 50 Ground Reports Project
The 2024 elections might seem easy to guess, but there are some important questions that shouldn't be missed.
Do freebies still sway voters? Do people prioritise infrastructure when voting? How will Punjab vote?
The answers to these questions provide great insights into where we, as a country, are headed in the years to come.
Swarajya is starting a project with an aim to do 50 solid ground stories and a smart commentary service on WhatsApp, a one-of-a-kind. We'd love your support during this election season.
