Touching an all-time high, India yesterday (15 August) conducted record 8,68,679 COVID-19 sample tests, getting closer to the target set by Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi to build the capacity to conduct 10 lakh tests each day, reports Hindustan Times.
With yesterday's high, the total number of COVID-19 tests conducted in the nation so far has surged to 28.5 million.
In another positive development, the nation also recorded the highest tally of recoveries in a single day registered since the pandemic began. A total of 57,381 patients recovered from the viral disease yesterday, taking the total number of recoveries past 1.8 million mark.
It should be noted that over 70 per cent of those infected by the viral disease have recovered so far, with a total of 12 States recording a higher recovery rate than the national average. Delhi, Haryana and Tamil Nadu have reported the highest recoveries rate of 90 per cent, 84 per cent and 82 per cent respectively.
Furthermore, the nationwide case fatality ratio has also come down to 1.94 per cent. The streak of positive developments come as a boost for the national and united effort put forward against COVID-19 pandemic by the various Governments, the frontline corona warriors, the masses and varied institutions.
