India To Achieve Majority Of COP 21 Climate Change Goals Set For 2030 In Next 18 Months: PM Modi In France

In a major commitment to preserving the environment and fighting climate change, Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi on Friday (23 August) apprised the Indian diaspora assembled at UNESCO headquarters in Paris that India will achieve most of its COP 21 climate change goals set for 2030 in the next year and a half itself, reports Livemint.
On a visit to France, PM Modi lamented that even though there was a lot of talk about the dangers of climate change but not much action has been evident. He took the opportunity to mention that India and France have jointly formed the International Solar Alliance.
Further hailing the bolstering Indo-French ties, PM Modi said, “From solar infra to social infra, from technical infra to space infra and from digital infra to defence infra, the India-France alliance is moving forward strongly.”
PM Modi also added that common ideals is the reason that France and India are closely cooperating to fight the big dangers in the world like terrorism and climate change.
The announcement from PM Modi about achieving most of COP 21 goals in the next year and half comes at a time when India is pursuing an ambitious goal to set up a renewable generation capacity of 175 GW by 2022 which would mark India’s 75th year of independence from the British rule. Of this, India aims to generate 100 GW of energy from solar energy.
