India To Cover Gaps Along Pakistan Border Using ‘Smart Fence’ Equipped With Lasers, Advanced Sensors

Home Minister Rajnath Singh will tomorrow launch India's first 'smart fence' pilot project, which involves plugging the gaps along India’s border with Pakistan using laser technology, the Times of India has reported.
As part of the project, laser-activated fences and technology-enabled barriers will be installed in the gaps, the report says.
The fence will use “sensors like thermal imager, underground sensors, fiber optical sensors, radar and sonar” which will be “mounted on different platforms like aerostat, tower and poles” to monitor activity.
In the coming years, India will use smart fences to cover gaps along 2,400 km border with Pakistan and Bangladesh. This move is part the comprehensive integrated border management system planned by the Narendra Modi government to seal India’s border with Pakistan and Bangladesh completely.
Tomorrow, Singh will travel to forward areas in Jammu to inaugurate the ambitious project as part of a day-long tour. The fence will be operationalised in two five kilometre long patches along the border with Pakistan.
